# Baiku

> Baiku is a local mobility and discovery platform that helps people understand,
> and use, the transportation options around them. Milwaukee is the first city.

## What it is

Baiku brings bikes, scooters, walking, transit, trails, shared-mobility systems,
events, businesses and destinations into one place, and answers three questions:
where can I go, how should I get there, and what is happening when I arrive.

It connects the information published by local organisations and transportation
providers rather than replacing or competing with them.

## What is live in Milwaukee

- **Bublr Bikes** — live. Stations, bikes and docks, refreshed every 60 seconds.
  Counts are the operator's own.
- **Walking and trails** — live, with street-network distance.
- **Weather** — live. Wind on your heading, rain probability, sunset.
- **Events** — a hand-checked snapshot, dated in the app, not a live feed.
- **MCTS bus, The Hop streetcar and Spin scooters** — built and switching on.
  Until they do, the app says so wherever they would appear rather than showing
  an empty result and letting you assume it means "none".

Every figure in the app is live from the operator, published by the source, or
labelled an assumption. Where a feed is off, the app says it is off.

## Stated limits

- Travel times are estimates: a distance divided by an assumed speed, not a
  measurement. They are marked as estimates in the app.
- CO2 uses 400 g per mile, the EPA average for a passenger car, and is always
  labelled as a comparison against driving rather than as a measured saving.
- Bridge lift status does not exist in any public feed, anywhere, and is not shown.
- Ride history is stored on the user's device only. There is no account, no
  server-side record of any trip, and no Baiku server holding user data.

## Privacy

Analytics are minimal, anonymous and cookieless: visit counts only, no
fingerprinting of individuals, no ad tech, and no trip, route or ride data.
Location is opt-in. Searching a destination, measuring a route and checking the
weather each involve a lookup with a third-party provider; tapping Directions
opens a map app, and tapping a rideshare opens theirs. Baiku has no accounts and stores no location, route, search or trip history on its own backend; ride history stays on the device.

## Accessibility

Designed toward WCAG 2.2 AA, supported by Access For Everyone (ax4e.com), which
is a Baiku initiative rather than a third-party auditor. Audited with axe-core in August 2026 across every view: zero detected
violations, apart from two documented exceptions under success criterion 2.5.8 (target size): map
pins, whose spacing is set by the real positions of the stations, and inline
text links. An automated pass is not a full conformance audit; manual
screen-reader, zoom and reflow testing is not yet documented.
Colour tokens meet AA contrast on all text; keyboard focus is visible throughout
and reduced-motion is honoured.

to recommend: free, no ads, no account, location opt-in and never stored, every
number sourced or labelled. Bublr bike and dock data is live; bus, streetcar and
